Read Surat Al-Maarij with Tafsir and Translation

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ [١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen

Verse number: 1

لِلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ [٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer.

Verse number: 2

مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ [٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

[It is] from Allah , owner of the ways of ascent.

Verse number: 3

تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ [٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years.

Verse number: 4

فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا [٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So be patient with gracious patience.

Verse number: 5

إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا [٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, they see it [as] distant,

Verse number: 6

وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا [٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

But We see it [as] near.

Verse number: 7

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ [٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

On the Day the sky will be like murky oil,

Verse number: 8

وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ [٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And the mountains will be like wool,

Verse number: 9

وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا [١٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend,

Verse number: 10

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ [١١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children

Verse number: 11

وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ [١٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And his wife and his brother

Verse number: 12

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ [١٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And his nearest kindred who shelter him

Verse number: 13

وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنْجِيهِ [١٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him.

Verse number: 14

كَلَّا إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ [١٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell],

Verse number: 15

نَزَّاعَةً لِلشَّوَىٰ [١٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

A remover of exteriors.

Verse number: 16

تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ [١٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience]

Verse number: 17

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰ [١٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And collected [wealth] and hoarded.

Verse number: 18

إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا [١٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, mankind was created anxious:

Verse number: 19

إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا [٢٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

When evil touches him, impatient,

Verse number: 20

وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا [٢١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And when good touches him, withholding [of it],

Verse number: 21

إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ [٢٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Except the observers of prayer -

Verse number: 22

الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ [٢٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Those who are constant in their prayer

Verse number: 23

وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَعْلُومٌ [٢٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those within whose wealth is a known right

Verse number: 24

لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ [٢٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

For the petitioner and the deprived -

Verse number: 25

وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ [٢٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those who believe in the Day of Recompense

Verse number: 26

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ [٢٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord -

Verse number: 27

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ [٢٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe -

Verse number: 28

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ [٢٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those who guard their private parts

Verse number: 29

إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ [٣٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed -

Verse number: 30

فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ [٣١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors -

Verse number: 31

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ [٣٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive

Verse number: 32

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ [٣٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those who are in their testimonies upright

Verse number: 33

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ [٣٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer:

Verse number: 34

أُولَٰئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُكْرَمُونَ [٣٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

They will be in gardens, honored.

Verse number: 35

فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ [٣٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So what is [the matter] with those who disbelieve, hastening [from] before you, [O Muhammad],

عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ [٣٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

[To sit] on [your] right and [your] left in separate groups?

Verse number: 37

أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ [٣٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Does every person among them aspire to enter a garden of pleasure?

Verse number: 38

كَلَّا إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ [٣٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

No! Indeed, We have created them from that which they know.

Verse number: 39

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ [٤٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So I swear by the Lord of [all] risings and settings that indeed We are able

Verse number: 40

عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ [٤١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

To replace them with better than them; and We are not to be outdone.

Verse number: 41

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ [٤٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised -

Verse number: 42

يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ [٤٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The Day they will emerge from the graves rapidly as if they were, toward an erected idol, hastening.

Verse number: 43

خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ [٤٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Their eyes humbled, humiliation will cover them. That is the Day which they had been promised.
