Read Surat As-Saaffat with Tafsir and Translation

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا [١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

By those [angels] lined up in rows

Verse number: 1

فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا [٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those who drive [the clouds]

Verse number: 2

فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا [٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And those who recite the message,

Verse number: 3

إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ [٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, your God is One,

Verse number: 4

رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ [٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them and Lord of the sunrises.

Verse number: 5

إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ [٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment of stars

Verse number: 6

وَحِفْظًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَارِدٍ [٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And as protection against every rebellious devil

Verse number: 7

لَا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍ [٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

[So] they may not listen to the exalted assembly [of angels] and are pelted from every side,

Verse number: 8

دُحُورًا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ [٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Repelled; and for them is a constant punishment,

Verse number: 9

إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ [١٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Except one who snatches [some words] by theft, but they are pursued by a burning flame, piercing [in brightness].

Verse number: 10

فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمْ مَنْ خَلَقْنَا إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِنْ طِينٍ لَازِبٍ [١١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Are they a stronger [or more difficult] creation or those [others] We have created?" Indeed, We created men from sticky clay.

Verse number: 11

بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ [١٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

But you wonder, while they mock,

Verse number: 12

وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ [١٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And when they are reminded, they remember not.

Verse number: 13

وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ [١٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And when they see a sign, they ridicule

Verse number: 14

وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُبِينٌ [١٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And say, "This is not but obvious magic.

Verse number: 15

أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ [١٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

Verse number: 16

أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ [١٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And our forefathers [as well]?"

Verse number: 17

قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنْتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ [١٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Say, "Yes, and you will be [rendered] contemptible."

Verse number: 18

فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ [١٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.

Verse number: 19

وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ [٢٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

They will say, "O woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense."

Verse number: 20

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ [٢١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

[They will be told], "This is the Day of Judgement which you used to deny."

Verse number: 21

احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ [٢٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

[The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship

Verse number: 22

مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطِ الْجَحِيمِ [٢٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Other than Allah , and guide them to the path of Hellfire

Verse number: 23

وَقِفُوهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ مَسْئُولُونَ [٢٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned."

Verse number: 24

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ [٢٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"

Verse number: 25

بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ [٢٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

But they, that Day, are in surrender.

Verse number: 26

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ [٢٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And they will approach one another blaming each other.

Verse number: 27

قَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَمِينِ [٢٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."

Verse number: 28

قَالُوا بَلْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ [٢٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,

Verse number: 29

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ بَلْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ [٣٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.

Verse number: 30

فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ [٣١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].

Verse number: 31

فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَاوِينَ [٣٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."

Verse number: 32

فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ [٣٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.

Verse number: 33

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ [٣٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.

Verse number: 34

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ [٣٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah ," were arrogant

Verse number: 35

وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَجْنُونٍ [٣٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"

Verse number: 36

بَلْ جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ [٣٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.

Verse number: 37

إِنَّكُمْ لَذَائِقُو الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ [٣٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,

Verse number: 38

وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ [٣٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -

Verse number: 39

إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ [٤٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

But not the chosen servants of Allah .

Verse number: 40

أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَعْلُومٌ [٤١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Those will have a provision determined -

Verse number: 41

فَوَاكِهُ وَهُمْ مُكْرَمُونَ [٤٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Fruits; and they will be honored

Verse number: 42

فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ [٤٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

In gardens of pleasure

Verse number: 43

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِلِينَ [٤٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

On thrones facing one another.

Verse number: 44

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ [٤٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,

Verse number: 45

بَيْضَاءَ لَذَّةٍ لِلشَّارِبِينَ [٤٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

White and delicious to the drinkers;

Verse number: 46

لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنْزَفُونَ [٤٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.

Verse number: 47

وَعِنْدَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ عِينٌ [٤٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And with them will be women limiting [their] glances, with large, [beautiful] eyes,

Verse number: 48

كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَكْنُونٌ [٤٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.

Verse number: 49

فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ [٥٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.

Verse number: 50

قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنْهُمْ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينٌ [٥١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth]

Verse number: 51

يَقُولُ أَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُصَدِّقِينَ [٥٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe

Verse number: 52

أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ [٥٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'"

Verse number: 53

قَالَ هَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُطَّلِعُونَ [٥٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

He will say, "Would you [care to] look?"

Verse number: 54

فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَآهُ فِي سَوَاءِ الْجَحِيمِ [٥٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire.

Verse number: 55

قَالَ تَاللَّهِ إِنْ كِدْتَ لَتُرْدِينِ [٥٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

He will say, "By Allah , you almost ruined me.

Verse number: 56

وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِينَ [٥٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell].

Verse number: 57

أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ [٥٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then, are we not to die

Verse number: 58

إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا الْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ [٥٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?"

Verse number: 59

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ [٦٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, this is the great attainment.

Verse number: 60

لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَامِلُونَ [٦١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work.

Verse number: 61

أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ [٦٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum?

Verse number: 62

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِلظَّالِمِينَ [٦٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers.

Verse number: 63

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيمِ [٦٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire,

Verse number: 64

طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُءُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ [٦٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils.

Verse number: 65

فَإِنَّهُمْ لَآكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ [٦٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies.

Verse number: 66

ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِنْ حَمِيمٍ [٦٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water.

Verse number: 67

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى الْجَحِيمِ [٦٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire.

Verse number: 68

إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا آبَاءَهُمْ ضَالِّينَ [٦٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed they found their fathers astray.

Verse number: 69

فَهُمْ عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ [٧٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So they hastened [to follow] in their footsteps.

Verse number: 70

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ [٧١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples,

Verse number: 71

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ مُنْذِرِينَ [٧٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And We had already sent among them warners.

Verse number: 72

فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ [٧٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then look how was the end of those who were warned -

Verse number: 73

إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ [٧٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

But not the chosen servants of Allah .

Verse number: 74

وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُونَ [٧٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And Noah had certainly called Us, and [We are] the best of responders.

Verse number: 75

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ [٧٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And We saved him and his family from the great affliction.
