Read Surat An-Najm with Tafsir and Translation

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

وَالنَّجْمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ [١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

By the star when it descends,

Verse number: 1

مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمْ وَمَا غَوَىٰ [٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred,

Verse number: 2

وَمَا يَنْطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ [٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination.

Verse number: 3

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ [٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

It is not but a revelation revealed,

Verse number: 4

عَلَّمَهُ شَدِيدُ الْقُوَىٰ [٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Taught to him by one intense in strength -

Verse number: 5

ذُو مِرَّةٍ فَاسْتَوَىٰ [٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form

Verse number: 6

وَهُوَ بِالْأُفُقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ [٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon.

Verse number: 7

ثُمَّ دَنَا فَتَدَلَّىٰ [٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then he approached and descended

Verse number: 8

فَكَانَ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ أَوْ أَدْنَىٰ [٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer.

Verse number: 9

فَأَوْحَىٰ إِلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ مَا أَوْحَىٰ [١٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed.

Verse number: 10

مَا كَذَبَ الْفُؤَادُ مَا رَأَىٰ [١١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The heart did not lie [about] what it saw.

Verse number: 11

أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ [١٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So will you dispute with him over what he saw?

Verse number: 12

وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ [١٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And he certainly saw him in another descent

Verse number: 13

عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ [١٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary -

Verse number: 14

عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ [١٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Near it is the Garden of Refuge -

Verse number: 15

إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ [١٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it].

Verse number: 16

مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ [١٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit].

Verse number: 17

لَقَدْ رَأَىٰ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِ الْكُبْرَىٰ [١٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord.

Verse number: 18

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّىٰ [١٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza?

Verse number: 19

وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ [٢٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And Manat, the third - the other one?

Verse number: 20

أَلَكُمُ الذَّكَرُ وَلَهُ الْأُنْثَىٰ [٢١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Is the male for you and for Him the female?

Verse number: 21

تِلْكَ إِذًا قِسْمَةٌ ضِيزَىٰ [٢٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

That, then, is an unjust division.

Verse number: 22

إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا أَسْمَاءٌ سَمَّيْتُمُوهَا أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَمَا تَهْوَى الْأَنْفُسُ وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنْ رَبِّهِمُ الْهُدَىٰ [٢٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.

Verse number: 23

أَمْ لِلْإِنْسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ [٢٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Or is there for man whatever he wishes?

Verse number: 24

فَلِلَّهِ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْأُولَىٰ [٢٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].

Verse number: 25

وَكَمْ مِنْ مَلَكٍ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ لَا تُغْنِي شَفَاعَتُهُمْ شَيْئًا إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ يَأْذَنَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَرْضَىٰ [٢٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allah has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves.

Verse number: 26

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ لَيُسَمُّونَ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَسْمِيَةَ الْأُنْثَىٰ [٢٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names,

Verse number: 27

وَمَا لَهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ عِلْمٍ إِنْ يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا الظَّنَّ وَإِنَّ الظَّنَّ لَا يُغْنِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ شَيْئًا [٢٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.

Verse number: 28

فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْ مَنْ تَوَلَّىٰ عَنْ ذِكْرِنَا وَلَمْ يُرِدْ إِلَّا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا [٢٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life.

Verse number: 29

ذَٰلِكَ مَبْلَغُهُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ [٣٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.

Verse number: 30

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى [٣١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth - that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward] -

Verse number: 31

الَّذِينَ يَجْتَنِبُونَ كَبَائِرَ الْإِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ إِلَّا اللَّمَمَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ إِذْ أَنْشَأَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ وَإِذْ أَنْتُمْ أَجِنَّةٌ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ فَلَا تُزَكُّوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقَىٰ [٣٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.

Verse number: 32

أَفَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ [٣٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Have you seen the one who turned away

Verse number: 33

وَأَعْطَىٰ قَلِيلًا وَأَكْدَىٰ [٣٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And gave a little and [then] refrained?

Verse number: 34

أَعِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰ [٣٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?

Verse number: 35

أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَىٰ [٣٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses

Verse number: 36

وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّىٰ [٣٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] -

Verse number: 37

أَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ [٣٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another

Verse number: 38

وَأَنْ لَيْسَ لِلْإِنْسَانِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ [٣٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives

Verse number: 39

وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَىٰ [٤٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that his effort is going to be seen -

Verse number: 40

ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الْجَزَاءَ الْأَوْفَىٰ [٤١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense

Verse number: 41

وَأَنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ [٤٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that to your Lord is the finality

Verse number: 42

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ [٤٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep

Verse number: 43

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا [٤٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that it is He who causes death and gives life

Verse number: 44

وَأَنَّهُ خَلَقَ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ [٤٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that He creates the two mates - the male and female -

Verse number: 45

مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ إِذَا تُمْنَىٰ [٤٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

From a sperm-drop when it is emitted

Verse number: 46

وَأَنَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّشْأَةَ الْأُخْرَىٰ [٤٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that [incumbent] upon Him is the next creation

Verse number: 47

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَغْنَىٰ وَأَقْنَىٰ [٤٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that it is He who enriches and suffices

Verse number: 48

وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ رَبُّ الشِّعْرَىٰ [٤٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that it is He who is the Lord of Sirius

Verse number: 49

وَأَنَّهُ أَهْلَكَ عَادًا الْأُولَىٰ [٥٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And that He destroyed the first [people of] 'Aad

Verse number: 50

وَثَمُودَ فَمَا أَبْقَىٰ [٥١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And Thamud - and He did not spare [them] -

Verse number: 51

وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا هُمْ أَظْلَمَ وَأَطْغَىٰ [٥٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing.

Verse number: 52

وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَةَ أَهْوَىٰ [٥٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And the overturned towns He hurled down

Verse number: 53

فَغَشَّاهَا مَا غَشَّىٰ [٥٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And covered them by that which He covered.

Verse number: 54

فَبِأَيِّ آلَاءِ رَبِّكَ تَتَمَارَىٰ [٥٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then which of the favors of your Lord do you doubt?

Verse number: 55

هَٰذَا نَذِيرٌ مِنَ النُّذُرِ الْأُولَىٰ [٥٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

This [Prophet] is a warner like the former warners.

Verse number: 56

أَزِفَتِ الْآزِفَةُ [٥٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The Approaching Day has approached.

Verse number: 57

لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ كَاشِفَةٌ [٥٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Of it, [from those] besides Allah , there is no remover.

Verse number: 58

أَفَمِنْ هَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ تَعْجَبُونَ [٥٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then at this statement do you wonder?

Verse number: 59

وَتَضْحَكُونَ وَلَا تَبْكُونَ [٦٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And you laugh and do not weep

Verse number: 60

وَأَنْتُمْ سَامِدُونَ [٦١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

While you are proudly sporting?

Verse number: 61

فَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ وَاعْبُدُوا [٦٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So prostrate to Allah and worship [Him].
