Read Surat Al-Qamar with Tafsir and Translation

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

اقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ [١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].

Verse number: 1

وَإِنْ يَرَوْا آيَةً يُعْرِضُوا وَيَقُولُوا سِحْرٌ مُسْتَمِرٌّ [٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic."

Verse number: 2

وَكَذَّبُوا وَاتَّبَعُوا أَهْوَاءَهُمْ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُسْتَقِرٌّ [٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.

Verse number: 3

وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ مِنَ الْأَنْبَاءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ [٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence -

Verse number: 4

حِكْمَةٌ بَالِغَةٌ فَمَا تُغْنِ النُّذُرُ [٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].

Verse number: 5

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ الدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيْءٍ نُكُرٍ [٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding,

Verse number: 6

خُشَّعًا أَبْصَارُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُنْتَشِرٌ [٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,

Verse number: 7

مُهْطِعِينَ إِلَى الدَّاعِ يَقُولُ الْكَافِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ [٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."

Verse number: 8

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا مَجْنُونٌ وَازْدُجِرَ [٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.

Verse number: 9

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ [١٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."

Verse number: 10

فَفَتَحْنَا أَبْوَابَ السَّمَاءِ بِمَاءٍ مُنْهَمِرٍ [١١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down

Verse number: 11

وَفَجَّرْنَا الْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَالْتَقَى الْمَاءُ عَلَىٰ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ [١٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.

Verse number: 12

وَحَمَلْنَاهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَاحٍ وَدُسُرٍ [١٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,

Verse number: 13

تَجْرِي بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَاءً لِمَنْ كَانَ كُفِرَ [١٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.

Verse number: 14

وَلَقَدْ تَرَكْنَاهَا آيَةً فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [١٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?

Verse number: 15

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [١٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

Verse number: 16

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [١٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Verse number: 17

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [١٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

Verse number: 18

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِي يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّ [١٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,

Verse number: 19

تَنْزِعُ النَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُنْقَعِرٍ [٢٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.

Verse number: 20

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [٢١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

Verse number: 21

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [٢٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Verse number: 22

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِالنُّذُرِ [٢٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Thamud denied the warning

Verse number: 23

فَقَالُوا أَبَشَرًا مِنَّا وَاحِدًا نَتَّبِعُهُ إِنَّا إِذًا لَفِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ [٢٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And said, "Is it one human being among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.

Verse number: 24

أَأُلْقِيَ الذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ [٢٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."

Verse number: 25

سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَنِ الْكَذَّابُ الْأَشِرُ [٢٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.

Verse number: 26

إِنَّا مُرْسِلُو النَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَهُمْ فَارْتَقِبْهُمْ وَاصْطَبِرْ [٢٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.

Verse number: 27

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ الْمَاءَ قِسْمَةٌ بَيْنَهُمْ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُحْتَضَرٌ [٢٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And inform them that the water is shared between them, each [day of] drink attended [by turn].

Verse number: 28

فَنَادَوْا صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ [٢٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

But they called their companion, and he dared and hamstrung [her].

Verse number: 29

فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [٣٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

Verse number: 30

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَكَانُوا كَهَشِيمِ الْمُحْتَظِرِ [٣١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.

Verse number: 31

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [٣٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Verse number: 32

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ بِالنُّذُرِ [٣٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The people of Lot denied the warning.

Verse number: 33

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ نَجَّيْنَاهُمْ بِسَحَرٍ [٣٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn

Verse number: 34

نِعْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي مَنْ شَكَرَ [٣٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful.

Verse number: 35

وَلَقَدْ أَنْذَرَهُمْ بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا بِالنُّذُرِ [٣٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.

Verse number: 36

وَلَقَدْ رَاوَدُوهُ عَنْ ضَيْفِهِ فَطَمَسْنَا أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [٣٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."

Verse number: 37

وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُمْ بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُسْتَقِرٌّ [٣٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.

Verse number: 38

فَذُوقُوا عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ [٣٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

So taste My punishment and warning.

Verse number: 39

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْآنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُدَّكِرٍ [٤٠]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

Verse number: 40

وَلَقَدْ جَاءَ آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ النُّذُرُ [٤١]

Translation: English - Sahih International

And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.

Verse number: 41

كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُقْتَدِرٍ [٤٢]

Translation: English - Sahih International

They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.

Verse number: 42

أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أُولَٰئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُمْ بَرَاءَةٌ فِي الزُّبُرِ [٤٣]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scripture?

Verse number: 43

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُنْتَصِرٌ [٤٤]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?

Verse number: 44

سَيُهْزَمُ الْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ الدُّبُرَ [٤٥]

Translation: English - Sahih International

[Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].

Verse number: 45

بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ [٤٦]

Translation: English - Sahih International

But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.

Verse number: 46

إِنَّ الْمُجْرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَالٍ وَسُعُرٍ [٤٧]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.

Verse number: 47

يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِي النَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا مَسَّ سَقَرَ [٤٨]

Translation: English - Sahih International

The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."

Verse number: 48

إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ [٤٩]

Translation: English - Sahih International

Indeed, all things We created with predestination.
